New in Version 2
Here you can find out more about the new features and enhancements in DB Zipper V1. DB Zipper Version 2 is a free upgrade for existing Version 1 customers.Note: Release notes for updates and/or DB Zipper version history can be found here.
Performance improvementsNow archive/backup data up to 50% faster than before. The combination of a new underlying data pump and a new way of handling binaryCommand-line options supportDB Zipper V2 can be run with command line options to automate adding to or extracting from database archive files. In combination with a scheduler, this is an easy way to automate your database backup jobs.
Example:
Windows Vista supportDB Zipper now fully supports Microsoft Windows Vista operation system. Enhancements to support Windows Vista include an updated installer to enable association with DB Zipper files under Vista. In the previous version, DB Zipper could not always connect to MS SQL Server and MS Access databases under Vista. This new version now uses Vista compatible database connectivity components for MS SQL Server and MS Access databases.New databases supportedDB Zipper V1 already supported Oracle 7-10, InterBase 5-7, Firebird 1-2, PostgreSQL 7, MySQL 3-5, MS Access 97-2000 and MS SQL Server 6.5-2005. This now also inlcudes support for PostgreSQL 8 and MS Access 2003 and MS Access 2007. |
Support for large archive files and large tablesDB Zipper V2 now makes it easier than ever to archive large databases. Tables with up to 119 GB of data can be archived and extracted without problems. A complete archive file (with multiple archived tables) can now hold up to 900 GB.Improved database platform independencyData type conversions between different database platforms has been improved by defining data type conversion rules for each of the supported database instead of the generic data type conversion method used in the previous version. These new data type conversion rules means that archived tables can be extracted (restored) to another database platform more easily.Support for schemas/ownersA lot of databases support schemas these days. Schemas essentially partition a single database into multiple "namespaces" which can
have different privilege levels. In DB Zipper V2 you can now select a schema when you connect to your database to archive tables. When you have selected a schema, you will only see those tables associated with that schema. When you did not specify a schema name, you will see all tables.
